About Scott

Hi, I'm Scott Davidson, a Person-Centred counsellor, based in Dunfermline, Scotland, working online to help people with life's challenges.

A little bit of background

Following a career in design, I trained as a Person-Centred counsellor. Throughout life, I've had an interest in psychology, emotions, behaviour and what we can do to help one another. I found myself continually curious about my experiences and reactions to things that came up, and about other people that I met and came into contact with in daily life. I wondered about how we got along, disagreed, loved, hurt and found our way in the world around us.

Becoming a counsellor

I studied and trained as a counsellor, beginning with a Counselling Skills Certificate and then completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This was a truly valuable and uplifting experience, where I met and learned so much from many brilliant and caring people.

However, the work is never done and ongoing learning continues as I look to expand my experience and knowledge, to further help me meet the needs of the people I work with, with the challenges that they face in their lives..

How I work as a counsellor online

I work online to help people across the UK. While counsellors often work 'face-to-face; sitting together with someone in the same room, online counselling can be for some people a valuable alternative. Some people find that, when time is precious, not having to travel to counselling can make it easier to fit counselling sessions into whatever schedule they might have.

Online video counselling allows me to see people, not just in my local area, but across the UK. It's also an aid for people who couldn't easily get to a counselling room, perhaps because of illness or a physical disability. Some people just feel more comfortable being in their own home.

When I am online with a person that has come to counselling seeking help, although we are not actually in the same room, we do make a real connection. We've met to discuss what's troubling them and in that space we are together, listening, talking, and working to understand their situation.

Meeting online is pretty straightforward. I send out an invite and link to the counselling session to the person I'm working with and they open the link in their browser, on their phone, tablet or laptop computer.

When it's time for the session, I open the meeting room and the person I sent the link to clicks to join and that's it - we're together online, ready to begin talking, to work together to help them.
